About Travis Hammond

I began fly fishing at age 12 and have never stopped. I get out on the water more than ever now that I live in area with such great fly fishing opportunities. My first quarry on the fly were panfish and largemouth bass in the farm ponds of the Alabama countryside but I soon expanded my horizons to saltwater species of the Gulf Coast. Eventually I moved to Washington State were I mainly pursued trout for years until I discovered the amazing warm water fishery of the Columbia River Basin. For the last five years I have focused mainly on carp but still do chase trout and steelhead. Sight casting to carp to me is fly fishing in its purest form. It calls on all of your skills for spotting the fish, presenting the fly and detecting the take (the hardest and most rewarding part). I have focused my carp fly tying to the specific forage found in the various waters where I fish. I fish all of my flies on all of my favorite carp water with success so I think will work just about anywhere. With a lot more water to explore out there, I foresee much inspiration for future fly designs and am proud to be part of the Catch team.
