Trevor “McTage” Tanner grew up as a 4th generation fly fisherman chasing high country trout on dries. Fifteen years ago while living in Michigan he discovered that trout are not the only valid fly fishing species and perhaps not even the best. Over forty species later he is of the opinion that the honor goes to the Carp and he now chases them nearly exclusively.
“No other freshwater species has the same combination of size, strength, intelligence, accessibility, and a nature suited to sight fishing. The package is fascinating.”
For much of the time Trevor has been chasing carp, good commercial carp flies have been hard to come by. As a result Trevor has become nearly as passionate about designing carp flies as using them.
“Catching carp on the fly is hard enough as it is. Having to develop and tie your own flies can really slow down the learning curve and discourage new-comers. CATCH is working to fix that and I am really excited to help out.”
Trevor blogs about fly fishing for carp at www.flycarpin.com and is a member of the CarpPro fly fishing pro-staff. He has been tying for 18years, 12 of which were dedicated to carp and other warm-water species. In 2011 he teamed up with Clint Packo and they rode “McTage’s Trouser Worm” to the Carp-Slam V championship in downtown Denver.
