About Kris Thompson
Kris Thompson’s fly fishing roots began at 9 years old, in the Rangeley Region of Maine, in an old beat up canoe on a remote backwoods pond. The wild brook trout were as eager to bite as the blackflies and mosquitos. Those bug bites healed, but the urge to explore in search of trout never went away.
Through his early adult years he worked at popular fishing lodges in the Rangeley Region, on both the Magalloway and Rapid Rivers. By the age of 20 he acquired his guide license and eventually started a successful guiding business and received his Federation of Fly Fishers casting certification. Sprinkle in a little western states travel with fishing and we reach the present.
Today, Kris lives in Rangeley with his loving wife and three children. He has owned and operated Pond in the River Guide Service since 2001. Through the years his enthusiasm for the sport hasn’t faded one bit! A big part of this continued enthusiasm comes from the creative outlet fly tying provides. Kris thrives on the excitement of seeking out that next bend in the river and replicating the insects and creatures he encounters. When Kris doesn’t have fish on the brain he enjoys spending time with his family, deer hunting, and trying to better his 5K race time.
