About Craig Boulden
Born in Casper, Wyoming, I was lucky enough to experience first-hand the untamed splendor of the wild west. Even as a boy, my whole worldrevolved around the outdoors, learning about the fish that littered the streams, rivers and lakes. My grandpa must have recognized the wildness in me because, when I was only seven, Gramps taught me a deep respect for nature, and the magical world of fly tying and fly fishing. I was amazed that I could catch fish on my own hand-tied creations and was hooked immediately.
In the early 70’s, I tied commercially and supplied 400 dozen assorted flies for Big Bear SportingGoods stores throughout Montana. I even invented the “Bighorn Special” streamer fly that became a staple fish-catching machine on the Bighorn River. My passion to make a living doing what I love, led me to a life of guiding hunting and fishing adventures throughout Wyoming, Alaska and Arizona for the next 25 years. I guided wilderness horseback adventures throughout Wyoming’s back-country, catching wild native trout and hunting elk from remote camps. Then my adventures took me to Alaska, where I became an out-camp guide, chasing salmon, big rainbows, arctic char and grayling throughout the summer months and spent my long winters guiding fly fishing on the Colorado River for Lee’s Ferry Anglers. I have landed bonefish, tarpon, dorado, and sailfish on flies. I won #2 Team of the Year in the Wyoming Walleye Circuit. I was written up in Gray’s Sporting Journal for catching dorado on a fly. I captured the “Best of the West” fly casting championship at the International Sportsman’s Expo in San Mateo, CA. I possessed a US Coast Guard Captain’s license for guiding anywhere in US inland waters. I published an eBook titled Fighting Alaska’s Wild Kings. But my outdoor adventures didn’t end there. I became an outdoor videographer for Steve’s Outdoor Adventures TV Show and traveled the world filming exciting hunting adventures. I am now retired in Loveland, Colorado and spend most of my time fishing, hunting and designing new flies that catch fish.
