About Bob Mallard
Bob Mallard lives in central Maine. He travels extensively and is on the water over 100 days a year. He has owned and operated Kennebec River Outfitters in Madison, Maine since 2001. Bob is a blogger, writer, author, sales rep and fly designer. His flies have appeared in the books Guide Flies (David Klausmeyer) and Caddis flies (Thomas Ames, Jr.) Two of his patterns, Mallard’s Better Mouse and Mallard’s No Miss Mouse, were recently featured in an article in American Angler. Bob has appeared on radio and television, including a Maine Department of Tourism commercial. He has been featured in newspapers, magazines and books—including the Wall Street Journal. Bob had a trout on the cover of a national fly fishing magazine. He has written about fly fishing, fly tying, fisheries management and conservation. His work has appeared in numerous newspapers, Northwoods Sporting Journal, The Maine Sportsman, Angling Trade, Fly Fishing New England, Eastern Fly Fishing, Fly Tyer, Fly Fishing & Tying Journal, Fly Fish America, and Fly Fisherman. Bob has a regular column—Gearhead—in Southern Trout online magazine. He is also the Northeast Regional Editor for Fly Fish America. Bob recently contributed two chapters to Terry and Wendy Gunn’s 50 Best Tailwaters to Fly Fish. He contributed chapters to two yet-to-be-titled books about National Parks and Maine Sporting Camps. His first book–50 Best Places Fly Fishing the Northeast—is currently available. His second book–25 Best Towns Fly Fishing for Trout–came out in fall 2015. Bob is also working on a book about brook trout and another called 25 Best Places Fly Fishing Maine. Bob’s books are published by Stonefly Press.
