About Bob Mallard

Bob Mallard lives in central Maine. He has traveled extensively and is on the water over 100 days a year.  Bob is a Registered Maine Fishing Guide and owned and operated Kennebec River Outfitters in Madison, Maine, from 2001 to 2015.  He is a blogger, writer, author, fly designer, and native fish advocate. His flies have appeared in the books Guide Flies (David Klausmeyer,) Caddisflies (Thomas Ames, Jr.,) and America’s Favorite Flies.  Two of his Catch patterns, Mallard’s Better Mouse and Mallard’s No Miss Mouse, were featured in an article in American Angler.  Bob has appeared on podcasts, radio, and television.  He has been featured in newspapers, magazines, and books.  Bob had a trout on the cover of Fly Fishing & Tying Journal.  He has written about fly fishing, fly tying, fisheries management, and conservation extensively.  His work has appeared in numerous newspapers, Northwoods Sporting Journal, The Maine Sportsman, Fly Fishing New England, Eastern Fly Fishing, Southern Trout, Angling Trade, Tenkara Angler, OrvisNews, MidCurrent, The Fiberglass Manifesto, Fly Tyer, Fly Fishing & Tying Journal, Fly Fish America, American Fly Fishing, Fly Fisherman, The Drake, and Outdoor Life.  Bob was also the Northeast Regional Editor and Publisher for Fly Fish America magazine.  He contributed two chapters to Terry and Wendy Gunn’s 50 Best Tailwaters to Fly Fish, one to their 25 Best National Parks to Fly Fish, and a chapter to Landon Mayer’s Giant Trout.  Bob also has five books of his own, 50 Best Places Fly Fishing the Northeast and 25 Best Towns Fly Fishing for Trout, and Squaretail: The Definitive Guide to Brook Trout and Where to Find Them, Favorite Flies for Maine: 50 Essential Patterns from Local Experts and Fly Fishing Maine: Local Experts on the State’s Best Waters.  He is also a founding member and Executive Director for Native Fish Coalition.
