Forrest Jay – Chief Sowbug Fly Designer

Forrest Jay shovels snow out of drift boat on the Bighorn River

Forrest Jay has been fly fishing since he was 7. Being born in Cheyenne, WY, growing up in Spokane, WA, attending college at Montana Tech and Colorado State University, and starting his engineering career in South Florida; Forrest has been able to perfect catching trout in the Rockies and Pacific NW and chase Tarpon, Snook, and Redfish in the Florida back country and from the beach.

While in Florida, Forrest was a member of the Ocean Kayak Pro Staff and fished inshore kayak tournaments and introduced many people to kayak fishing and back country camping. In the summer of 2012, Forrest was able to return to Butte, MT to work for Water & Environmental Technologies as a Civil/Environmental Engineer and re-acquaint himself with SW Montana rainbows and browns.

Forrest is one of the best fishermen we know and a great teacher of trout fishing techniques. When you see him on the water be sure to introduce yourself and also look for his patterns in our future catalogs.
